What are glasses frames?

An all too common health complaint in this modern society is the number of people with impaired/reduced eyesight, and so many people have to wear glasses frames in order to correct their vision. Unfortunately glasses frames are exceptionally delicate and it is remarkable how even the most trivial of traumas is enough to render the glasses frames effectively useless and by extension, the wearer with blurred vision.

Whilst glasses frames are easily repaired, the inconvenience posed in the time it will take for them to be properly repaired cannot be underestimated. Glasses frames also break down over time and steadily become more loose so even the most careful glasses frames owner will find themselves having to repair them. Even more infuriatingly is that even the most expensive, top of the range glasses frames fare no better than their less costly counterparts, and are just as susceptible to harm.

Luckily, glasses frames are just as easy to mend and repair to their former useful self, as they are to break, and even better, you do not need professional services, glasses frames repair is very straightforward all that is required is some patience and a cheap glasses frames repair kit. To begin with, you will need to use a magnifying glass to more closely examine the glasses frames and determine what exactly is wrong, because all too often a small screw has came loose or a hinge has broken on the "arm" of the glasses frames. If it is indeed, an over stretched hinge then you will need a pair of needle nose pliers to bend the hinge back into place.

Make sure you exercise great care when doing this; otherwise, you will end up causing more harm to your glasses frames rather than fixing them. Another excellent way of minimising potential damage to your glasses frames is to cover the tips of the pliers to prevent them scrapping against the lenses and damaging the lenses. Failing that, a small elastic band can be used to keep a broken glasses frames hinge in place, at least until more permanent and solid repairs can be carried out.

Screws whilst an essential component for holding the glasses frames together, are notorious for being misplaced and easily coming loose, the overwhelming majority of glasses frames repair kits come fully equipped with a miniature screwdriver which is ideal for tightening those tiny screws. If you don't have one of those screwdrivers for whatever reason then not to worry, you can get away with using the tip of a paring knife to serve the same purpose. As an extra safety precaution, dab some nail polish onto the screw once you have tightened it, this will further keep it in place make sure you let the nail polish dry totally before you put your glasses back on!

As noted earlier on, the screws in glasses frames thanks to their very small size are especially adept at disappearing and given the amount of time you would require to actually find one that went missing, you are better off simply buying a new one. These screws are a firm staple in any glasses frames repair kit, and usually there will be plenty of spare screws as well making it ideal if you happen to misplace the screws a lot!

Miniature safety pins can also work by slipping into the screw hole and closing the pin, but note, never force the screw into a hole if it does not fit because this will end up causing tremendous and irreparable damage to the glasses frames, so don't let anger or impatience cloud your judgement.

Sometimes the metal hinge of the glasses frames breaks away, and this too whilst a common occurrence is very easily remedied. First, make sure you clean the frame and the hinge surfaces thoroughly so as to remove any and all residual glue that maybe left on the surfaces. This may sound rather self-defeating; surely, we would need as much glue as possible to ensure that the frame stays in place?

This is true, but the glue that is left on the surfaces will be uneven and worn away, as well as having lost its adhesive effect. Applying a fresh coat of glue will ensure that the hinge and glasses frames remain firmly attached to one another, but make sure you hold the two components together so as to ensure that they bind together simply keep them firmly in place for a minute or two and you will be fine.

One of the most simple and effective ways of removing excess glue is to make use of a toothpick, the toothpick is sharp enough to carefully scrap away at the layer of glue, but not sharp enough to cause any damage or scratching to the actual glasses frames itself.

When choosing glasses frames to wear, remember that one size does not fit all, nor does one style suit all. Choosing the best looking glasses frames will depend on factors such as your skin tone, hair colour as well as the shape of your face. For example, if you have a more triangle shaped face (a broad forehead with a more narrow mouth and chin) the ideal glasses frames for you would be those with thin rims as these will more effectively balance out the lower proportions of your face.

Make sure the sides of the glasses frames have a vertical element to them so as to help accentuate the overall face shape. Look for frames where the temples meet the lenses higher up. If the temples contact the frame too low, the frame will ride to high and will not look good and to make life easier for you, you may want to purchase a frame with nose pads because these will allow you to more effectively adjust the frame height.

Practise makes perfect so just keep trying different glasses frames until you find a style and colour that you like.
